Redundancy

In response to the increasing number of job losses in the profession, the Architects Benevolent Society has produced a redundancy information pack. Aimed at those already out of work or under threat of losing their jobs, the pack details how the ABS can help with advice and financial support.

“Redundancy – help and information” deals with the redundancy process, state benefits, debt, paying the rent or mortgage and all the other challenges you face when you lose your job.

As well as information, the ABS can provide telephone advice about claiming state benefits, refer you to debt counselling for expert help with managing credit cards, loans and particularly mortgage repayments or rent and to a legal advice service if you feel your redundancy is unfair or if you need initial legal advice on other topics related to poverty or financial hardship. All these services are free to those who work, or have worked, in the design process in architecture.

And if you are in real difficulties the ABS may be able to provide finance either as a gift or an interest free loan to be repaid when you are back on your feet. Whether or not the ABS can give any financial help and what form it will take depends on your personal circumstances.
