Trying to get your career back on track?

In response to the increasing number of people who lost their jobs recently, the Architects Benevolent Society produced a redundancy information pack.

Although initially aimed at those already out of work or under threat of loosing their jobs, the pack will be useful to those who are trying to re-build their career.

“Redundancy – help and information” deals with the redundancy process, state benefits, debt, paying the rent or mortgage and all the other challenges you face when you lose your job.

As well as information, the ABS can provide telephone advice about claiming state benefits, refer you to debt counselling for expert help with managing credit cards, loans and particularly mortgage repayments or rent and to a legal advice service if you feel your redundancy is unfair or if you need initial legal advice on other topics related to poverty or financial hardship.

The ABS can also refer you to a service to help you prepare to get back to work. All these services are free to those who work, or have worked, in the design process in architecture.

If you are in real difficulties the ABS may be able to provide finance either as a gift or an interest free loan to be repaid when you are back on your feet. Whether or not the ABS can give any financial help and what form it will take depends on your personal circumstances.
