Gifts, loans and grants
We provide sums of money either as gifts or interest-free loans to help pay for one-off major expenses. We help with anything from repairing a leaking roof to replacing a broken central heating boiler to adapting equipment to enable a disabled person to return to work more easily.
Grants are given to people in need of regular financial support. We are often able to provide top-up help to people receiving state benefits. These are payments, known as charitable disregards, which the Department of Social Security does not take into account when assessing eligibility for social security benefits.
Our welfare officers visit every beneficiary in their home at least once a year. They ensure that adequate help is being provided and make recommendations to the architect trustees on the Case Committee. The decision-making process is thorough but quick - in cases of extreme urgency, decisions can be made immediately.
