Starting today, families across the UK will get £326 sent directly to them, with a second instalment of £324 sent later this year as part of the government’s £37 billion support package. There will also be other government support available over the next few months. This support is summarised below.
Instalment payments
- The instalment payments will be made into the account of those who receive means tested benefits. It will be paid between today and 31st July
- You are entitled to this if you are claimed Universal Credit (UC), Child or Working Tax Credit, Pension Credit, income based JSA or ESA, Income Support *between 26 April 2022 and 25 May 2022. For Housing Benefit only, or if UC is £0 award for the *period due to earnings, you are not entitled
- Payment will be made automatically – no action is required
- Payment will be made into the account welfare benefits are paid into, reference ‘DWP Cost of Living”
- The qualifying period dates and payment dates for the second instalment have not yet being announced.
- If only on Tax Credits, then the £326 will not be paid until the autumn, with £324 paid in the winter
The disability cost of living payment
- This will be £150 and will be paid from September
- One has to be in receipt of a non-means tested disability benefit e.g., DLA / PIP
The pensioner payment
- This will be £300 and will be paid from November
- One has to be someone who receives the winter fuel payment
Discounted energy bills
- There will be £400 discount on electricity bills for all households this winter
- This will be arranged by energy providers and does not have to be paid back
